Description
The 2008 Toro Rosso STR3 was a late entry into the 2008 Formula One season but it proved to be one of the most iconic cars of its generation. Designed by genius Adrian Newey, Toro Rosso actually started out the 2008 season with a updated B spec of their 2007 entry, the STR2. After 5 rounds, the STR3 finally made its debut in the 6th round of the championship at Monaco. While lead driver German Sebastian Vettel wrangled everything he could out of the car, teammate Frenchman Sebastian Bourdais wasn't as fortunate. Bourdais started off the STR3 with a retirement in the first race and finished an average of 12th throughout the rest of the season, with a high point being 7th place in Belgium. Future World Champion Vettel, however, earned his first victory in F1 in Monza, earning another 9 top 10 finishes and 2 retirements for the rest of the season. This performance earned Vettel 8th in the Drivers Championship and Toro Rosso 6th in the Constructors Championship. Vettel would move to the main Red Bull team the next season, eventually earning 4 Drivers Championships, while Bourdais would only race the next 9 races of the 2009 season before leaving F1 and moving to a pretty successful IndyCar/Champcar career.
